With its entry into Costco in the U.S., Umtree, a domestic small and medium-sized food company, is accelerating its expansion into the North American market.
Umtrie, a food specialty company, announced on the 24th that it has entered a key North American distribution network by supplying its sauce product 'Everjang' and traditional gochujang to Costco in the United States. The products are currently being sold at approximately 40 Costco stores in California and Hawaii, and are scheduled to expand to stores nationwide in the future.
Umtree CEO Kim Sang-hee stands holding the company's Everjang, which is selling well at Costco (Los Angeles branch) in the United States.
This store entry is highly significant as it passed the screening process of Costco, known for its stringent quality standards and restricted brand operation policies. The industry views this as a case where the quality competitiveness Umturi has accumulated in the fermented paste and sauce sectors has been recognized by global distribution channels.
Among the released products, 'Everjang' is a versatile sauce suitable for meat dishes and salads, characterized by its emphasis on onion-based flavor and umami. 'Traditional Gochujang' is a premium product that achieves a mild taste and deep flavor by applying a long-term aging method at low temperatures.

Umtree CEO Kim Sang-hee is holding up the company's gochujang, which is selling well at Costco (San Francisco branch) in the United States.
Founded in 1978, Umturi is a company that has focused on fermented sauces and condiments, and is expanding its presence in overseas markets amidst the recent trend of growing demand for K-food.
CEO Kim Sang-hee stated, “This achievement was led by the alignment of our quality-focused management and overseas market expansion strategy,” adding, “With the entry into Costco, we plan to strengthen our penetration of the North American market and pursue the expansion of our global distribution network in the future.” Umturi, which currently exports products to approximately 45 countries, set a goal to expand its export countries to over 80 within the next three years.
The industry regards this case as an example demonstrating that domestic small and medium-sized food companies can also secure competitiveness in the global market based on expertise and quality.
